At the beginning of this month, All In Energy held their first webinar called "Why Are My Energy Bills Are So High?" Our team has met many residents who are paying energy bills that seem too high, but feel overwhelmed by the amount of information on their energy bills and by the number of solicitations they receive about their energy choices. We find that sometimes residents are missing out on valuable programs that can help them save energy and money because they aren’t sure what will help them and what will hurt them.

That’s why we put together a webinar to help you understand your energy usage and how you can reduce it.

Expanding Our Impact : Partnering with the City of Methuen

As much as the world has been evolving, so has All In Energy. In 2020, All In Energy became an official partner of the City of Methuen. While our work was temporarily delayed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we officially launched the new program, "Methuen Saves Energy" in June. Methuen is one of a handful of cities who were named 2020 Municipal Partners with National Grid and Columbia Gas, sponsors of the Mass Save® program. We are partnered with the city to connect their residents, small businesses, and nonprofits to the statewide Mass Save® energy efficiency programs.

Figuring out the best ways to connect folks to all the benefits that energy efficiency brings has not been easy in light of the pandemic, but we are making progress as we continue to find new, innovative ways to continue to support our communities. We are connecting Methuen residents to no-cost home energy assessments - now being offered virtually through video chat or over the phone by our energy efficiency partners - to help families save energy and money at home.

We're expanding our outreach and communication efforts to take place online and through social media, ensuring that our constituents in this new partnership are well-informed. We supported Joe Cosgrove, Energy Manager for the City, in his TV appearance during the Mayor's Minute show in June and have collaborating with the library and senior center to help residents learn about the chance to save energy at home. Now, we are planning a community-wide mailer with the city to reach all Methuen residents.

We look forward to the moment we can go back to connecting with people in person once it is safe, especially at our new partnership in Methuen. In the meantime, we are so thrilled to be able to help in any way we can.

We are so excited to welcome the newest members of our team for this summer. Read below to meet them!

Litzy Gastelum Arguelles, Marketing Intern

Litzy is a rising junior at Tufts University double majoring in Film and Media and Environmental Studies. With her studies, she focuses on finding the intersection between both her majors in the field of environmental communications. She hopes to one day work with businesses not only to promote environmental equity but to also search for more ways for businesses to build stronger relationships with their clients in their transition to a clean energy economy.

Litzy immigrated to the United States from Mexico when she was six and was raised in South Los Angeles. She maintains a deep connection with both of her communities by reading Spanish while drinking coffee and eating pan dulce (sweet bread) everyday.

She will be working as our Marketing Intern this Summer of 2020.

Jimmy Hikmatullah, Data Analysis Consultant

Jimmy immigrated from Indonesia to the United States with a dream to foster pride to the people of his country. He hopes that one day he will help Indonesia in supporting action to create equity in wealth, education and more human rights.

Jimmy decided to pursue computer science at Marlborough College because he is confident is his computational skills. In his past, he's built software to help his deaf grandfather, designed a website for Marlboro College to help solve transportation problems, and worked with All In Energy as a Data Analyst fellow in the Fall 2019.

Starting this Summer 2020, he will work with All In Energy as a full-time intern once again and will continue his work from the Fall of 2019. During the summer, he'll focus on All In Energy’s customer relationship management and help the organization expand their impact on larger communities.

He is grateful for opportunities that All In Energy has given him. He has learned how to devote his skills and work to influence the real world. He hopes from what he learns this summer it will build on his experience and work which will eventually manifest into something bigger than himself.

Elidijon Tafa, Communications and Marketing Intern

The internship at All In Energy was very important to me because
it gave me an insight in my future career of focusing my graphic design skills in the clean and sustainable energy industry. My passion and dedication to others inspired me to go beyond my responsibilities and duties. I helped the organization temporarily transition their strategy to promote a new project called community solar when COVID-19 hit. With their support, I was able to land a summer internship as a Marketing Intern at the Solar Energy Company.

Melaku Tachbele, Web Developer Intern

My time as a web developer intern at All In Energy was so important to me because it challenged me push myself to learn more and look for more opportunities to do so. Among the many things that I learned here, I will use the values of team work and communications to help me in my future career. I am going to continue pursuing my career as a software developer.

We are delighted to welcome our new cadre of spring interns to All In Energy! We continue our partnerships with the College for Social Innovation (CfSI) and with the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, with one intern from each program. We are also delighted to be launching a new partnership with Bunker Hill Community College to welcome four interns this semester through their Learn and Earn Program.

Meet our interns below!

Emma Boc, CfSI Data Analysis Fellow
Emma is a senior at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She will be graduating in May with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Sustainability. She is a core member of Sunrise Southcoast, a climate activist group that began September 2019 in UMassD; and spent her previous semester registering her fellow students to vote, organizing events, and striking on campus for campus commitment of zero carbon emissions by 2030. Alongside her activist work, she has gained skills researching and analyzing data. Producing several data analysis projects during her time at UMassD. She is very excited to join All In Energy during her final semester.

She will be assisting in the organization of our Sales-force database, as well as producing a data analysis special project on the demographics of residents All In Energy has served. With a passion for inclusive clean energy, she is looking forward to working with a sustainable non-profit and learning from her peers.

Kirsty Kerr, Marketing Intern
Kirsty is 21 years old and a senior at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, studying Strategy and Innovation. She studies how companies should position, develop, and embrace innovations within their company as well as how to build a sustainable, strategic model. Her passion for marketing and startups began when she worked in a team of nine other business students to build their own unique product and company from scratch in just 3 months. She lead the marketing team during that project which provided her a lot of knowledge and skills in that field. She wanted to use those skills she developed to effectively communicate All in Energy’s missions to those unaware of the energy programs offered in MA.

She began her time with All in Energy during the Summer of 2019 as the Marketing Intern and is excited to be back again this year! She felt that there is still much more she can do to help All in Energy’s mission and loves being a part of the work here. In her position, she manages the social media accounts, finding new ways to raise awareness of our services and the different events our outreach team attends. She only has a few more months left in Boston because she is moving to Seattle in the summer to work full time at Amazon, and wanted to spend it continuing her work at All in Energy.

Melaku Tachbele, Web Development Intern
Melaku is a student from Bunker Hill Community College. He is in his final semester and will graduate in May with A.S in Information Technology. He will be transferring to a four-year college to get his B.A in information technology and specialize with Web App Development.

He moved to the United States four years ago along with his family. He supports his family while attending Bunker Hill Community College. Moving to America opened up an opportunity to follow his passion and interest in the field of programming. In the future, he wants to work as a freelancer to help small business owners expand their reach to show their work to the world through a website here in the U.S as well as in Ethiopia. He also wants to give back to the community he grew up in by teaching a programming language needed to develop a website.

He is excited to join the All In Energy marketing team this spring as his first job experience in the field. He will be focusing on the reorganization and redesign of our website.

Elidijon (Jon) Tafa, Graphic Design Intern
Jon will be graduating in May from BHCC with an associate degree in Visual Design. His educational background includes an MA in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Tirana in Albania. He believes that education is the key to success, and he's trying his best to integrate his passion as an architect and a graphic designer to help others. To be a good graphic designer you have to be a good communicator, communicate your ideas and love to be part of the teamwork. He loves to draw, to sketch buildings while walking or while having a coffee. That’s his passion, his mind race with creativity and questions. Designing is in itself a fulfilling creative pursuit, trying to have a style beyond the typical work. He loves challenges, working with people, new ideas and interacting with everything new. He’s full of passion and zest and a big coffee lover.

With all that’s going on in the world, he is becoming a promoter for inclusive clean energy, that’s what dragged him to be part of the organization. He will be assisting the organization by being the Communication and Marketing intern, by producing graphics materials for the residents that All In Energy will be serving.

Erik Barrios, Finance and Operations Intern
Erik is a 19 year old Colombian-American student, raised in Dorchester, Boston. He is now in his first year at Bunker Hill Community College as an aspiring accountant student, attempting to secure his associates degree. Erik has a special connection to his roots having an advanced knowledge in Spanish communications. He began as a Finance Operations Intern early at All in Energy in March with a special enthusiasm in working with a nonprofit goal-orientated small organization. He has a strong devotion to taking care of what pertains to not only him, but the people of the world, which is clean and affordable energy. His goal is to be the happiest he can be at all time regardless of the situation.

Goodbye CfSI Fellows

As the semester comes to a close, we will be saying goodbye to our current CfSI fellows as they continue their careers in Business Administration and Computer Science.
Tyler:
This internship was the first taste in the management side of my career choice and it allowed me to better understand my strengths and weaknesses. I ran the social media outlets as we pushed out into the Cambridge area. I was able to host and attend multiple events, being a great help to All In Energy. I also learned some helpful skills when it comes to marketing and design, as well as the ability to juggle multiple projects and communicate with different organizations to set up partnerships and raise money.
Jimmy:
I am glad that I was able to use my computer science skills for something bigger than himself. I interned at All In Energy as Data Analysis fellow to help the organization build their customer management system specifically using Salesforce. Through the course of the semester, I felt like I belonged, watching All In Energy grow exponentially and use the system I helped build as one of the important pieces. I hope the organization will grow even more so more people can benefit from what All In Energy provides.

Half-Marathon Runners!

Kiyota Gomi, a manager of Finance and Administration, is All in Energy’s first out of five runners! A resident of Cambridge, “Kiyo” is running rather close to home as a supporter of All in Energy. He is the Finance manager for CfSI, the same organization that hired this years fellows for us. Kiyo also went to business school with All in Energy’s Co-Founder, Rouwenna Altemose, and is inspired by her tenacity, drive and passion for the environment. He’s an advocate for composting and recycling, as well as the use of public transit over personal transportation. He does most of his running by the Charles River in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville and is excited for his second half-marathon in November.

Adrienne Drucker is our is our SECOND Cambridge runner. Currently living in Jamaica Plain with fellow runner and husband, Lonn Drucker, she hopes that her run will get people more knowledgeable about the environment. Adrienne works as an Informatics Pharmacists, and supports the use of public transport or walking to avoid adding to the carbon footprint. She follows a plant-based diet and participates in Grass Root movements such as Sunrise. She is excited to see other people running for what they believe in. “Look deep into Nature, and then you will understand everything better.” -Einstein

Lonn Drucker hopes to raise awareness of All in Energy’s campaign for energy efficiency with his wife, Adrienne. Lonn is a runner to help people be more aware of their footprint on the environment and wants to make a clear example of how to help. Lonn tries to walk to his destinations rather than drive, as well as received proper insulating his home to save energy and save money on his utility bills. He hopes that by being supported by All in Energy, others will see the good that comes out of getting your home assessed.

Kelly Lynch, Clean Energy Campaigner with the Sierra Club, is the next Cambridge half-marathon runner. From Woodstock, Vermont, Kelly to try to get the younger generation of adults to work towards what they believe in. As the Campaigner for the Sierra Club, Kelly is constantly working towards a cleaner, more sustainable earth, by promoting environmentalist policies via political endorsements. These are focused around mitigating climate change, the opposing of the use of coal and sustainable energy. Personally, Kelly supports her organization interests by riding a bike or using public transit as opposed to using a car, as well as limiting her meat and dairy consumption. Kelly runs for All in Energy to spread the influence of sustainable energy for undeserved communities as part of solving climate change and achieving environmental justice, while also having fun running with friends and being healthy. “The people closest to the problem are closest to the solution.” - Chukwuemeka Manning

Maya Reese, Student at MIT, is our last but not least, November runner! Coming all the way from California and currently living on campus, Maya emphasizes an efficient, healthy and sustainable living conditions; consisting of a vegan diet, a no-waste lifestyle, and dedicated form of transportation via bicycle. Maya says what inspires her the most is partly of her classmates and friends at MIT, as well as her drive to combat social and environmental issues. This drive is shown through her life-style, her interests in running for All in Energy, and voting for energy efficient minded candidates. She majors in physics, with a minor energy studies, which allows her to study a solution to climate change through sustainability and the transition to a greener, more reliable energy. She can't wait to show how much better it is to run for a cause rather than stay content with the current state of life.

City of Cambridge Partners with Local Nonprofit All In Energy To Increase Energy Efficiency Engagement, Help Renters Save Money and Energy

All In Energy conducts targeted energy efficiency outreach to undeserved populations

Cambridge, September 17 , 2019 – The City of Cambridge has partnered with All In Energy, a Boston-based nonprofit, to increase and enhance energy efficiency outreach to renters and landlords living in 1-4 unit buildings. All In Energy’s outreach model focuses on underserved populations – including renters, moderate-income households, non-native English speakers, and people of color – to help them save money on their utility bills by connecting them with energy efficiency resources and renewable energy programs. The organization also serves as a talent pipeline for workforce development in the sector, expanding clean energy job opportunities for individuals in underrepresented groups through a paid, hands-on training program.
   Through the partnership with the City, All In Energy and its partner Neeeco, a Mass Save home performance contractor, will offer dedicated access to a Rental Property Energy Advisor for Cambridge renters. Earlier this month, All In Energy hired Cambridge resident Jean Alofan for the role. Alofan, who recently completed the Cambridge Community Learning Center’s Bridge to College Program, emigrated to Cambridge from West Africa and is fluent in seven languages, including English, Portuguese, and French. Through All In Energy’s workforce development program, Alofan will become certified as a Building Performance Institute Home Energy Auditor, enabling him to seek employment with other companies in the clean energy industry.
   Alofan will connect renters with no-cost home energy assessments, including instant savings measures like LED light bulbs and programmable thermostats, as well as a customized list of actions to help residents save energy and money. The partnership between the City and All In Energy aims to support hundreds of Cambridge renters in accessing energy-saving services.
“All In Energy’s program model aligns with many of the City’s goals. In addition to furthering our efforts to reduce Cambridge’s carbon footprint, both of our organizations aim to promote social equity through our programs and support workforce development,” said Iram Farooq, Assistant City Manager for Community Development. “We look forward to working with their team to advance both these goals and support Cambridge renters, who represent over 60% of the city’s population.” “Massachusetts has nation-leading public energy-savings programs which we pay for on utility bills. Unfortunately, renters are often not aware that they are also eligible to receive no-cost home energy assessments,” said All In Energy Co-Founder Gabe Shapiro. “We are thrilled to work with the City of Cambridge, who has received nationwide recognition for their clean energy efforts, to demonstrate that we can simultaneously ensure renters benefit from energy-saving programs and create new pathways into clean energy jobs.”
    All In Energy’s outreach focuses on face-to-face interactions, tabling at local events, and community presentations to reach residents who may be unaware of energy-savings programs or have not had the time to take advantage of them. This approach ensures that each resident gets support to take advantage of energy efficiency opportunities to reduce their utility bills and make their homes more comfortable.
   The partnership will build on a variety of City programs and resources that help Cambridge households save money and become more energy efficient, including the Multi-Family Energy Program, which provides no-cost energy efficiency assessments and solar assessments to owners of multi-family buildings with 5 or more, and the Cambridge Community Electricity Program, which connects residents to affordable and local renewable electricity. Welcoming our Fall CfSI Interns

As summer comes to a close, All in Energy is happy to announce a new partnership with the College for Social Innovation (CfSI). The college hosts a program called Semester in the City, which gives business minded students from all over New England a chance to work for non-profit establishments within the Boston/Cambridge area for a semester. These students will hold the title of "fellow" and be receiving full semester credits, or credits based on their work. Through this program, All in Energy welcomes two new fellows to add to the growing team.

Tyler Stadlman: Communications Fellow
Tyler Stadlman is 20 years old and a sophomore at Becker College, Worcester MA. He has a great understanding of social life and in the process of getting his Major in Business Administration and Accounts, and a minor in Psychology. With these interests, he is an activist for self independence building and environmental troubleshooting. Taking multiple business management courses has given Tyler the required skills to run local farm stands and other community projects such as running numbers for a community garden. He enjoys the outdoors, as a previous member of ultimate Frisbee club, track team, and soccer. As a member of the drama club and honors chamber orchestra, he is able-minded in multiple scenarios and shows strong dedication to the arts. He is joining All In Energy this fall as the Communications Fellow. This position will allow him to interact with organizations and individuals in the Boston and Cambridge areas, and recommend more energy efficient options to those who may not know about the state's energy savings program or who have limited time. Through his work, he hopes to help All in Energy increase its sphere of influence and use communications to boost its programmatic success even further. Tyler is hoping that this network will allow him to get connected to a future employer to start his career after college.

Jimmy Byandika: Data Analysis Fellow
As a visionary and hard-working international student, Jimmy studies computer science at Marlboro College. His dream for equity in wealth distribution is the main reason he came to the United States and he is excited to be working with All In Energy. Prior to coming to All In Energy, Jimmy helped resolve transportation problems in Marlboro College. He developed a car-pooling website where people who need a ride can meet people who have extra room in their vehicle. This fall, he is joining All In Energy as a Data Analysis Fellow. This opportunity will give him the experience in providing value to society through innovation and helping others. Also, as a data analyst, programming in a group setting will enrich his experience in the industry. Working on something that impacts people directly is the most exciting thing he is looking forward to. He hopes that the Semester in The City program will help him building networks in the social sector. Although the social sector has not been his focus to date, a lot of the communities that he is interested in overlap with communities that social sector is focused on. In the future, he will focus more on how technology and innovation in business help contribute to redistribution of wealth in Indonesia to improve quality of people’s life through greater equity.

Boston Foundation Open Door Grant

We are thrilled to announce that this summer, we have received an Open Door Grant from the Boston Foundation! The application process is competitive and rigorous so we are so grateful to be one of the chosen organizations. Their support on our organization's strategy is meaningful and encouraging to All In's co-owners and every team member.

The Boston Foundation distributes a portion of its resources via its Open Door Grants program, which responds to expressed opportunities and needs in the communities we serve. The program encourages new and existing nonprofit organizations in Greater Boston that are not currently aligned with the strategies, goals and approaches pursued in the Foundation's five impact areas to pursue open Door Grants for support of their efforts to meet existing needs or test new ideas and innovations that address the most critical challenges and biggest opportunities facing our community.
