Our Solution
We combine community outreach in underserved communities with workforce development to advance an inclusive clean energy economy. Learn more about the specific problems we address.

We do community outreach to bring energy efficiency and renewable energy to underserved communities

We partner with community organizations and cities
Many local organizations and cities want their residents to have access to energy savings and affordable renewable energy, but do not have the capacity themselves to focus on this outreach. By working together, we can break through barriers of trust and enable residents who otherwise might not take action to save energy and get affordable renewables.

We hire a diverse staff.
We know that outreach is more effective when residents can relate to our team members. We work with community organizations, local community colleges and universities to hire staff and interns from the communities we serve or similar communities. Our multicultural, multilingual team is better able to build trust in the community, navigate different cultural norms, and connect with residents from many backgrounds.

We work with a network of energy efficiency and clean energy companies.
We create partnerships with clean energy companies who are committed to serving our residents and who provide high quality, affordable products and services.

We do outreach to educate residents
We create co-branded outreach campaigns in collaboration with our community and municipal partners. Most of our outreach is done face-to-face, though we also do outreach via phone and digitally. We go where residents live, work and pray - tabling at community events and in local businesses, presenting for local employers and at houses of worship, and doing door-to-door canvassing

We help residents save money and energy and get affordable renewable energy.
We connect residents to no-cost home energy assessments provided through the state’s Mass Save program. These help residents save energy and money at home. We also connect residents with community solar, which allows them to save money on electricity and support the development of local renewable energy.

We create pathways into the clean energy industry for diverse staff and interns.

We are committed to hiring a diverse team
We know that our work to diversify the clean energy industry starts with our own team.
We are conscientiously working to build an organization that is diverse (starting with gender, race, and languages spoken) and inclusive in our culture and equitable in our practices. This foundational work is critical to our long-term success as we need a diversity of perspectives and lived experiences to engage residents in underserved communities.

We leverage our jobs as stepping stones into the clean energy industry
By working with us, our outreach staff learn about the products and services in the clean energy industry. They build sales, customer service, communications, partnership development, and project management experience.
These skills prepare our team members for a wide variety of roles in the clean energy industry. When they are ready to move on, we work with team members to help them network in the industry and find their next position advancing clean energy.

We create pathways from college to career
Each semester we hire 3-5 college-age interns to join our team. All of our interns are paid or receive college credit to ensure a diversity of candidates can participate.
We participate in the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s Internship Program, the College for Social Innovation’s Semester in the City Program, and Bunker Hill Community College’s Learn and Earn Program.
When our interns finish their time with us, we work with them to identify their career goals and help them find their next position in the clean energy industry.
